Illume will be joining 75 countries worldwide on Thursday 20th March in support of World Oral Health Day.

Organised by the World Dental Federation, World Oral Health day is an annual event that celebrates the benefits of a healthy mouth and the importance of good oral health and hygiene.

The theme for this year’s event is ‘celebrating healthy smiles’, which focuses on protecting the teeth and mouths of the population throughout the whole of their lives - from childhood to old age.

Illume’s Practice Owner Tim Rumney comments, “World Oral Health Day provides an excellent opportunity to remind people about the importance of regular dental appointments to maintain a healthy mouth and smile.

“In many instances, some people do not attend regular dental appointments unless they are experiencing pain– in these cases their oral health has already been compromised, which could possibly have been prevented with regular examinations.”

Cheltenham based dental practice, Illume, has issued a timely reminder about the risks of smoking in support of National No Smoking Day, 12th March 2014.

National No Smoking Day is an annual event organised by the British Heart Foundation which encourages smokers to quit their ‘bad habit’ and improve their health for the long term.

According to Cancer Research, smoking is one of the main causes of mouth cancer, and is the most preventable cause of cancer worldwide.

Illume Practice Owner, Tim Rumney comments, “Smoking is a leading risk factor for mouth cancer, and according to statistics, is responsible for over half of all mouth cancer cases diagnosed in the UK every year. National No Smoking Day is an excellent awareness event that provides individuals with the help and support necessary to stop smoking – in turn reducing their risk of mouth cancer.”
