To follow on from September’s fundraising efforts, Illume is excited to announce it will be participating in Gloucestershire Independent Dentists [GID] Mouth Cancer Awareness Day, this Friday 10th October 2014.

As part of the event six members of the Illume team including Practice Owner and Clinical Director Tim Rumney, will be joining other members of GID and their teams in a charity fun run around Cheltenham Racecourse at 8am – with all funds being donated directly to the Mouth Cancer Foundation.

Following the fun run, the Illume team will be participating in GID’s CPD registered course on Mouth Cancer Awareness, which includes speeches from survivors, treatment methods, and a focus on the importance of early detection, regular screening and patient education.

Tim comments, “The GID Mouth Cancer Awareness Day is as an excellent event that will highlight to all participating members the importance of regular mouth cancer screening to significantly boost chances of early detection and survival.

“We felt it was extremely important for all members of the Illume team to attend the CPD course to ensure everyone is aware of the signs and symptoms of the disease and best practices for screening and referrals where necessary.”

As the only practice in Cheltenham accredited by the Mouth Cancer Foundation under the Mouth Cancer Screening Accreditation Scheme (MCSAS) Illume prides itself on its ability to offer thorough mouth cancer screening to all clients and members of the local community under its ‘Two minutes to save a life’ free mouth cancer screening programme.

Illume highlighted its commitment to the Mouth Cancer Foundation by participating in the charity’s 10km fundraising walk last month – so far it has raised over £300 via its Virgin Money Giving page and sponsorship forms available in the practice.

Tim continues, “Illume is extremely proud of its accreditation under the Mouth Cancer Foundation and as a result we ensure we do all we can to support the charity where possible – whether raising funds to donate directly, educating our clients about the risks associated with mouth cancer, or ensuring all team members are knowledgeable about the disease by attending regular CPD courses, like the GID event this Friday.”
